Data Snack: We are polarized

LD3 is the leader in pursuing votes from Independents, properly called PND voters = Party Not Designated.

Democrats and Republicans are becoming more polarized.  A graph of the Dem and GOP voters in Maricopa County looks like a Viking ship, where the bow is higher than the stern – with the Republicans at the biting end.

Our differences are what social scientists call “affective polarization.” “It’s polarization that’s based on our feelings for each other, not based on extremely divergent policy preferences.” *

Are Independents any different? We tend to think of them as undecided, persuadable or “swing” voters. Many are. But……

Independents tend to vote the way the people around them vote. They are bluer in blue districts and redder in red districts. We need every single Dem leaning Independent and as many of those in the middle we can find. This is what our Independents look like, shown by Red, Purple and Blue Districts. In our Purple Districts, they DO lean a bit more Republican.
