How low can they go?

HB2547 has already passed the House on a partisan vote.  The bill cuts all state funding to medical providers who dare to even mention abortion as an option to their patients. Funding would not be cut just for abortion care, but be cut off for all care.  (Only abortion procedures performed in rape or incest cases or to save a woman’s life are covered with federal money under Medicaid.)

This bill would eliminate Medicaid funding to any hospital, health care facility or doctor who sees AHCCCS (Arizona’s Medicaid program) patients — virtually every health care provider in Arizona — if they so much as tell a pregnant patient about abortions.

Reps. Kolodin and Chaplik helped pass the bill out of the House and Sen. Kavanagh helped pass it out of the Government Committee last week. The bill needs to be heard in the Rules Committee before it is sent to the floor for a vote.

Our legislative majority would rather see medical facilities close rather than let women be informed about their reproductive choices.

How can this bill can be stopped at this point in the legislative process? If the bill is not put on the Rules Committee agenda it is dead;  if it passes the Rules Committee but is not put on a Floor calendar, it is dead; if it passes a vote by the full senate it can be signed or vetoed by the governor.

What are LD3 lawmakers voting on this week?  The following bills sponsored by LD3 lawmakers have already passed their chamber of origin and are up for a vote in the cross over chamber.  You can weigh in on Request To Speak if you have an account, call or email.

HCR2037 sponsored by Alex Kolodin would repeal the state prohibition on sawed off shotguns, automatic rifles and silencers. Rep. Kolodin believes it is a “constitutional and God-given right” to possess not just traditional firearms but also what he called “weapons of war."  While federal laws would still be in effect, repeal of the state statute would mean local law enforcement would not be required to take action when ‘weapons of war” appear on our streets.

You may RTS against HCR2037 and call and/or email Senator Kavanagh who will vote on the bill in the Senate Government Committee on Wednesday.  Keep emails very short with HCR2037 in the subject line.

If passed by the senate this resolution will go to voters as a ballot question in 2026.

SB1002 and SB1003 were both sponsored by John Kavanagh and will be voted in the House Regulatory Committee on Tuesday. Both Reps. Chaplik and Kolodin will vote in that Committee.

SB1002 is Kavanagh's bill on requiring the use of pronouns to match a student’s gender at birth.

SB1003 is Kavanagh’s bill dictating bathroom use for transgender students.

You can RTS, call or email. Put the bill number in an email  subject line and keep message to no more than 3 short sentences.

If passed by the house these bills will go to the governor for her signature or veto.
